A StrategyQuant alternative for TradeStation, MultiCharts and NinjaTrader traders
If you trade futures on TradeStation, MultiCharts or NinjaTrader 8, Genetic System Builder (GSB) is a StrategyQuant alternative built around those three platforms. If you trade on MetaTrader, use a Mac or want a large community, StrategyQuant X is likely the better fit.

The short answer
GSB Pro is an authorised GSB reseller and earns a commission from Trademaid on sales, so we have an interest. We've kept to facts each vendor publishes, and we say where StrategyQuant X is stronger.
Both products build trading systems for you with a genetic search, then help you test them on data they weren't built on. The real differences are platform focus, operating system, community size and how you pay.

Where GSB differs
- Built around three platforms. GSB writes code for TradeStation and MultiCharts (EasyLanguage) and NinjaTrader 8 (NinjaScript), copied from its Scripts tab. See export to your platform.
- The data picks the indicators. GSB builds systems from its built-in indicators, then its Statistics tab shows which ones appear most in the best systems for your market. Read how genetic search works.
- Families, not single winners. GSB groups systems that use the same indicators with different parameters into families. You judge the whole family rather than one standout backtest.
- Walk-forward with stated thresholds. GSB runs anchored and rolling walk-forward tests, and the Strategy Guide gives Trademaid's stability and efficiency numbers to aim for.
- Verification on other data. Finished systems can be checked on other bar intervals and related markets, plus a Monte Carlo walk-forward. See the robustness checks.
- Work spread across machines. GSB Manager hands work to GSB Workers across several CPU cores or computers. See hardware and workers.
- A TradeStation and MultiCharts toolkit. Trademaid's add-ons include the Enhanced Walk-Forward Optimizer, which also tests code you wrote yourself, and Portfolio Analyst Pro.
GSB Pro membership is free with the trial and the licence. It walks you from install to a system on your chart in 53 video lessons.
Where StrategyQuant X is stronger
- A much larger community. In October 2026 the StrategyQuant YouTube channel had about 11,500 subscribers and over 500 videos. Trademaid's channel had 3 videos.
- Forex and MetaTrader. StrategyQuant X lists MetaTrader 4/5, JForex and cTrader output. GSB doesn't export to MetaTrader.
- Mac and Linux. StrategyQuant X says it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. GSB needs a Windows PC.
- Cloud and free tools. StrategyQuant offers AlgoWizard as a free cloud tool and QuantAnalyzer with a free tier.
- Paying over time. StrategyQuant X offers 12 monthly instalments, after which the licence is lifetime. A GSB licence is a single purchase.
- Free training in public. StrategyQuant's full AlgoLab course is on YouTube. GSB Pro's course is free but needs a free account.
GSB's limits, stated plainly
- Windows only, and it needs plenty of RAM: Trademaid suggests at least 16 GB.
- Code export covers TradeStation, MultiCharts and NinjaTrader 8 only.
- GSB builds systems from its own indicators. You can't load your own strategy into it to improve it.
- GSB doesn't size positions or compound. Trademaid models that in Portfolio Analyst Pro.
- It has a steep learning curve. The free Strategy Guide and video course exist to shorten it.
- The trial has fewer indicators than the full version, so trial builds won't match a licensed copy exactly.
Is StrategyQuant worth it?
That depends on your platform and how you'll use it, so we can't answer it for you. StrategyQuant X is a mature product with a large user base, and its trial is fully functional.
Neither vendor generally refunds a licence, so the 14-day trials matter. Use them on the same market and data, and judge the results on data the systems weren't built on.
No software can promise profits
A strategy builder can find systems that held up on past data. It can't tell you they will keep working. Paper trade first and only risk money you can afford to lose.
Who should pick which
| If you... | Consider |
|---|---|
| Trade futures on TradeStation or MultiCharts | GSB, with the optional EWFO and Portfolio Analyst Pro add-ons |
| Trade on NinjaTrader 8 | Either; both export NinjaTrader 8 code |
| Trade forex on MetaTrader 4/5 | StrategyQuant X |
| Work on a Mac or Linux | StrategyQuant X |
| Want to pay in instalments | StrategyQuant X |
| Want a guided course and a written method to follow | GSB with the free GSB Pro membership |
| Want to walk-forward test code you wrote yourself in TradeStation or MultiCharts | Trademaid's Enhanced Walk-Forward Optimizer add-on |
Platform-specific detail is on the TradeStation, MultiCharts and NinjaTrader pages.
How to compare them fairly in 14 days
- Export the same price data from the platform you trade on, and load it into both trials. See uploading data.
- Hold back a later period that neither build touches, so you have a clean final check.
- Build on one market and judge the candidates out of sample. The build methodology page shows Trademaid's steps.
- Walk-forward test the finalists, then check them on other markets or bar sizes. Read what curve fitting is first.
- Export a system to your platform and check its results match the builder's, as in export to TradeStation.
The get started page explains how the GSB trial works, and the case studies show Trademaid's own builds step by step.
