    Importing GSB Scripts into MultiCharts
Learn how to import the GSB function library (1 minute)

Learn how to export the GSB scripts into Multicharts so you can utilise GSB Pro generated trading systems in the Multicharts platform.

    Exporting to MultiCharts

The process for exporting to MultiCharts is similar to TradeStation since MultiCharts uses PowerLanguage, which is compatible with EasyLanguage.

Step 1: Import GSB Function Library

    1. Open MultiCharts PowerLanguage Editor
    2. Navigate to File → Import → Signals and Functions
    3. Select the GSB_Library_MC.PLA file from your GSB Pro installation directory
    4. Click Import and confirm the import completed successfully

Step 2: Export Strategy from GSB Pro

    1. In GSB Pro, select your validated system
    2. Click Export → MultiCharts (PowerLanguage)
    3. GSB Pro generates the complete strategy code
    4. Copy the generated code to clipboard

Step 3: Create New Signal in MultiCharts

    1. Open PowerLanguage Editor
    2. File → New → Signal
    3. Name your signal (e.g., "GSB_ES_System_001")
    4. Paste the GSB-generated code
    5. Save and Compile

Critical Configuration: Max Bars Back Setting

Most Common Data Issue: Max Bars Back Default Too Low
MultiCharts defaults to MaxBarsBack = 50, which is insufficient for most GSB systems. You must change this to 500.

The Problem: MultiCharts uses MaxBarsBack = 50 by default. GSB systems typically require more historical bars for technical indicators and calculations to function correctly.

How to Change Max Bars Back to 500:

    For Signals/Strategies (Per-Strategy Method):

    1. Right-click your chart → Format Signal
    2. Click Properties button (bottom right)
    3. In the first tab, find "Maximum bars study will reference"
    4. Enter 500
    5. Check "Use as Default" to apply to new strategies
    6. Click OK

    Set Global Default (PowerLanguage Editor):

    1. Open the PowerLanguage Editor
    2. Click Properties icon on toolbar (or File → Properties)
    3. Select the Properties tab
    4. In "Max number of bars study will reference" section:
    5. Click User specified
    6. Enter 500 in the box
    7. Check "Use as Default" ✓
    8. Click OK

    Important Requirements:

    • Your chart must have at least 500 bars of historical data loaded
    • Signals/strategies cannot use Auto-detect—MaxBarsBack must be manually set
    • For strategies with multiple signals, the highest MaxBarsBack value is used
    • Different MaxBarsBack settings can affect indicator calculations slightly

Performance Note: Higher MaxBarsBack = more memory usage and slower calculations. 500 provides a good balance for most GSB systems while maintaining reasonable performance.

    Applying to Charts

    Insert Signal on Chart

    1. Create chart for your target symbol
    2. Set correct bar interval
    3. Right-click chart → Format Signals
    4. Add your imported GSB signal
    5. Configure inputs to match your GSB Pro system

    Verify Backtest Results

Always verify the backtest matches your GSB Pro results:

    • View Strategy Performance Report
    • Compare net profit, win rate, and number of trades
    • Check individual trade dates and signals
    • Ensure commission and slippage settings match

    MultiCharts-Specific Features

    Portfolio Backtesting

    MultiCharts offers powerful portfolio backtesting:

    • Apply same strategy across multiple symbols simultaneously
    • Test portfolio-level performance
    • Analyze correlation and diversification benefits
    • Optimize capital allocation across instruments

    Strategy Automation

    To enable automated trading:

    1. Format Signals → Auto Trading tab
    2. Enable "Auto trading"
    3. Select broker connection
    4. Configure order parameters
    5. Set position sizing rules
    Pro Tip: MultiCharts .NET

MultiCharts .NET allows you to code strategies in C# instead of PowerLanguage. While GSB Pro exports to PowerLanguage by default, advanced users can translate the logic to C# for enhanced performance and flexibility.

    Common Issues

    Function Import Errors

    If functions don't import correctly:

    • Verify you're using the MultiCharts-specific library file
    • Check PowerLanguage Editor → Functions list
    • Re-import if functions are missing
    • Restart MultiCharts after importing

    Compilation Errors

    If strategy won't compile:

    • Ensure all GSB library functions imported successfully
    • Check for typos in input parameter names
    • Verify MultiCharts version compatibility
    • Review error messages for specific line numbers
