Adding Stock Symbols to GSB
Learn how to setup a stock symbol in GSB so you can begin using GSB to automatically build trading systems on the stock or portfolios of stocks for use in TradeStation, MultiCharts, or NinjaTrader.
Stock Symbol Setup Process
- Click "Add Symbol" in the left panel
- Enter the stock ticker symbol (e.g., AAPL, MSFT, GOOGL)
- Select the data file containing historical price data
- Configure the data format (daily, intraday, bar interval)
- Set the analysis period and out-of-sample validation range
Adding Futures Contracts
Learn how to add a futures contract symbol into GSB so you can start building trading systems for futures contracts automatically for use in TradeStation, MultiCharts, or NinjaTrader.
Futures Contract Configuration
Futures contracts require additional settings compared to stocks:
- Contract specifications: Point value, tick size, margin requirements
- Roll dates: When to roll from one contract to the next
- Session times: Regular trading hours vs extended hours
- Data continuity: How to handle contract rollovers in historical data
Exporting Data from Trading Platforms
From TradeStation
This video covers the process of exporting data from Tradestation for use in GSB. Learn how to generate the data in Tradestation, how to save and name the data file.
From NinjaTrader
Learn how to export intraday data from NinjaTrader for use in GSB to analyse stocks, futures contracts, currencies, ETFs or CFDs to build mechanical trading systems.
From MultiCharts
Learn how to export intraday data from Multicharts for use in GSB to analyse stocks, futures contracts, currencies, ETFs or CFDs to build mechanical trading systems.
Setting Up Intraday Data
Learn how to setup multiple sets of price data and how you can use 1 minute intraday data as your master data file with the 'multiple' function to analyse any intraday data interval you desire.
Master Data File Strategy
For maximum flexibility with intraday analysis:
- Import 1-minute bar data as your master dataset
- Use GSB's "multiple" function to create any interval (5-min, 15-min, 30-min, hourly, etc.)
- Test strategies across multiple timeframes simultaneously
- Validate systems on different bar intervals for robustness
The quality of your trading system discovery depends heavily on data quality. Use:
- Sufficient historical data (minimum 2-3 years recommended)
- Clean data without gaps or errors
- Adjusted data for stocks (splits and dividends)
- Continuous contract data for futures with proper roll adjustments
Next Steps
With your datasets and symbols configured, you're ready to start building trading strategies automatically.
