The GSB Pro Workspace
When you open GSB Pro, you'll see a workspace divided into several key areas. Don't try to memorize everything—just get familiar with the general layout.
Main Interface Areas
Left Panel - Settings
Configuration panels for strategy building, data, optimization settings, and more. This is where you set up what GSB will search for.
Center/Right - Results
Where discovered systems appear with their equity curves and statistics. After a build, this is where you'll find your trading systems.
Data Panel
Shows your loaded price data—the historical data GSB uses to discover patterns. For the trial, we'll use the included sample data.
Top Menu & Toolbar
File operations, project management, and the all-important Build button that starts the automated discovery process.
Key Things to Find
During your trial, you'll use these features most often:
1. The Build Button
Located in the toolbar, this is the button that starts the automated system discovery process. When you click Build, GSB begins testing indicator combinations on your data.
2. Project Menu (File → Open Project)
GSB organizes work into "projects" that save your data, settings, and results together. In the next lesson, you'll open the sample project from here.
3. Results List
After a build completes, discovered systems appear in a list. Each row represents a trading system that GSB found. You can click on any system to see its details.
4. Equity Curve Display
When you select a system from the results, its equity curve (a chart showing hypothetical account growth over time) appears. This is one of the most important things to look at.
About the Data Panel
For your trial, the Data Panel will show the sample data included with GSB Pro. When you purchase a full license, you'll load your own market data here.
You can import data from:
- TradeStation or MultiCharts — Export historical data and import directly
- NinjaTrader — Integrated connection for seamless data sync
The Strategy Guide has detailed instructions for each. During your trial, don't worry about this—the sample data is ready to use.
What You Can Ignore (For Now)
GSB Pro has many advanced features. During your trial, you can safely ignore:
- Advanced Optimization Settings — The defaults work fine for learning
- Walk-Forward Tabs — We'll mention these later, but you don't need them yet
- Export Options — Focus on finding systems first; exporting comes after
- Macro Recording — An automation feature for experienced users
Don't feel overwhelmed. The trial lessons focus only on what you need to know to run builds and evaluate results successfully.
