This Is the Moment of Truth
You've installed GSB Pro and explored the interface. Now it's time to see it in action. By the end of this lesson, you'll have run your first automated build and seen GSB discover trading systems on its own.
GSB Pro includes sample market data specifically for your trial. This is pre-configured and ready to use—no setup required. When you purchase your full license, you'll learn how to import your own data from TradeStation, MultiCharts, or NinjaTrader. See the Strategy Guide for those details.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open GSB Pro
- Launch GSB Pro from your Start Menu or Desktop
- Wait for the application to fully load
- You should see the main workspace from the previous lesson
Step 2: Open the Sample Project
- Click File in the top menu
- Select Open Project
- Navigate to the sample project folder (typically in your GSB Pro installation directory)
- Select the sample project file and click Open
- Wait for the project to load—you should see data appear in the Data Panel
The sample project is typically located in your GSB Pro installation folder, often under a "Samples" or "Projects" subfolder. The exact path may vary, but look for a file with .gsb or .gsbproj extension.
Step 3: Verify the Project Loaded
Before starting the build, confirm:
- The Data Panel shows price data (you'll see a chart or data summary)
- The project name appears in the title bar or project info area
- No error messages appeared during loading
Step 4: Start the Build
- Locate the Build button in the toolbar
- Click the Build button to start the discovery process
- A progress indicator will appear showing GSB is working
While the build runs, GSB is:
- Testing thousands of indicator combinations
- Running backtests on each combination
- Ranking systems by performance
- Using genetic algorithms to evolve better solutions
For the sample project, this typically takes a few minutes. Larger builds can take longer.
Step 5: View Results
- Wait for the build to complete (the progress indicator will finish)
- Look at the results list—you should see multiple discovered systems
- Click on the top system in the list (the one ranked #1)
- The equity curve will display, showing hypothetical account growth over time
- Notice the key statistics: Net Profit, Max Drawdown, Win Rate, etc.
Step 6: Celebrate (Briefly)
You've just run your first automated trading system build! Take a moment to appreciate what happened: GSB tested thousands of combinations and found systems that showed profitable patterns on your data.
In the next lesson, we'll learn how to interpret these results so you can tell which systems are worth keeping.
