Andrew will record the TradeStation workflow (steps are similar for MultiCharts and NinjaTrader)
What Is System Export?
GSB Pro's most powerful feature is that it generates a trading script—indicator code that can be copied directly into TradeStation, MultiCharts, or NinjaTrader. This is how you take a discovery from GSB and actually trade it live.
The exported code includes all your discovered indicators and rules. You copy and paste this code into your trading platform, and the platform runs your system automatically.
Step-by-Step: Export from GSB Pro
Step 1: Select a Promising System
From your completed build results, select a system you want to export. This should be one that passed your basic evaluation criteria (good equity curve, reasonable drawdown, decent win rate).
- Look at the results panel on the left
- Click the system you want to export
- Confirm the equity curve looks promising (see Lesson 5 if you need a refresher)
Step 2: Export the System
Right-click on the selected system or look for the Export button in the interface.
- GSB will present export options: TradeStation, MultiCharts, NinjaTrader
- Choose your platform
- GSB generates the indicator code automatically
GSB exports a script containing:
- ✓ All discovered indicators and their settings
- ✓ Entry and exit rules in your platform's language
- ✓ Money management settings (position sizing, stops, targets)
- ✓ Any optimization parameters you configured
Installing Indicators in Your Trading Platform
Before you can run your GSB system, you need to install the indicator code in your trading platform. The process is slightly different for each platform, but the concept is the same: copy the exported GSB code, paste it into your platform's code editor, compile it, and apply it to a chart.
Choose your platform below for detailed instructions:
For TradeStation Users
TradeStation uses its PowerEditor environment for custom indicators. This is where you'll install your GSB-exported strategy.
- Copy the exported code from GSB Pro results panel
- Open TradeStation PowerEditor (Tools → PowerEditor or access via Analysis Techniques)
- Create a new file and select "Indicator" as the file type
- Paste the entire GSB-generated code into the editor window
- Save the indicator with a descriptive name (e.g., "GSB_Strategy_v1_ES_Daily")
- Compile the code by pressing Build/Compile button and verify no errors
- Apply to chart by dragging the indicator onto an active chart
What to watch for: Compilation errors usually mean the code didn't paste correctly. Make sure you copied the entire code block and pasted it as plain text (not rich text).
For detailed step-by-step setup with screenshots and troubleshooting, see the Strategy Guide: Export to TradeStation
For MultiCharts Users
MultiCharts uses PowerLanguage (its proprietary scripting language) for custom studies. GSB automatically exports code in PowerLanguage format for MultiCharts.
- Copy the exported code from GSB Pro results panel
- Open the PowerLanguage Editor in MultiCharts (Tools → PowerLanguage Editor)
- Create a new Study (not a Signal—Strategy studies are different)
- Delete the template code and paste the entire GSB-generated code
- Save the study with a clear name (e.g., "GSB_Strategy_v1")
- Compile and verify — check the output window for any errors
- Apply to your chart by selecting the study in the Study Panel
MultiCharts tip: Make sure you're creating a Study (indicator), not a Signal or Strategy. Studies display on your chart; Signals and Strategies work differently.
For detailed step-by-step setup with screenshots and platform-specific configuration, see the Strategy Guide: Export to MultiCharts
For NinjaTrader Users
NinjaTrader has direct integration with GSB Pro through its C# scripting environment, making installation more streamlined than TradeStation or MultiCharts.
- Copy the exported code from GSB Pro results panel
- Open NinjaTrader Control Center and navigate to Tools → Editor
- Create a new Indicator file (or Strategy if that's what GSB exports)
- Paste the entire GSB-generated C# code into the editor
- Save the file with your indicator name
- Compile the code — NinjaTrader will check for errors in the Output window
- Restart NinjaTrader (or reload the script) to apply changes
- Add to your chart through the Indicators panel
NinjaTrader note: C# compilation is more strict than TradeStation's PowerScript or MultiCharts' PowerLanguage. Pay attention to error messages if compilation fails.

Critical Setup: Configure Platform Defaults to 500-Bar Lookback
This is essential for accurate reconciliation. GSB's historical results assume your indicators have access to 500 bars of historical data for calculations. If your trading platform uses fewer bars, your live results will differ from GSB's projections.
You need to configure this setting BEFORE running your strategy on live or simulated charts.
TradeStation: Set Chart Data Requirement to 500 Bars
TradeStation offers multiple ways to configure the 500-bar lookback. Choose the approach that matches your workflow:
Option 1: Via Chart Settings (Easiest for Most Users)
- Open or create a chart
- Right-click on the chart and select Format Chart
- Go to the Data2 or Data Requirements tab
- Set Bars to Load (or History Bars): 500 or higher
- Click OK and let the chart reload with the full history
- Important: Do this for EACH chart you use for your GSB strategy
This is the quickest method for setting up individual charts with your GSB indicators.
Option 2: Via Easy Language (In Your Indicator Code)
If you want to set the lookback requirement directly in your GSB indicator code (in Easy Language), add this line at the beginning of your indicator:
SetDataRequirements(1, 500);- Open your GSB indicator in PowerEditor
- Find the indicator inputs or near the beginning of the code
- Add the line:
SetDataRequirements(1, 500); - Save and recompile the indicator
- Apply the updated indicator to your chart
This method ensures the 500-bar requirement is built into your indicator and applies automatically to any chart you add it to.
Option 3: Via Power Editor Strategy Properties
If you're using your GSB system as a Strategy (not just an Indicator) in Power Editor:
- Open your GSB strategy in Power Editor
- Go to Strategy → Properties (or right-click and select Properties)
- Look for Data Requirements or Lookback Bars settings
- Set the requirement to 500 bars
- Save and recompile the strategy
- Apply the strategy to your chart
This approach is ideal if you're running your GSB system as an automated strategy with entry/exit signals.
Which method should I use? If unsure, start with Option 1 (Chart Settings). If you want the 500-bar requirement to be "sticky" (automatically applied), use Option 2 (Easy Language).
MultiCharts: Configure Historical Data Depth
- Go to Tools → Settings
- Select Data or Data Limits
- Find the setting for "History Depth" or "Bars of History"
- Set it to 500 bars minimum (can be higher)
- Click OK to save
- Restart MultiCharts for the setting to take effect
This is a global setting that applies to all charts in MultiCharts, so you only need to set it once.
NinjaTrader: Set Chart Lookback Period
- Open your NinjaTrader chart
- Right-click on the chart background and select Chart Settings
- Go to the Data/History tab
- Find Data Lookback or Lookback Period
- Set it to 500 bars or more
- Click OK to apply
- The chart will reload with the full historical data
NinjaTrader loads data efficiently, so 500+ bars is usually not a performance issue.
GSB uses 500 bars of lookback by default to calculate indicators. This ensures that when your indicator runs on your live chart, it has access to the same amount of historical context that GSB used during its backtest. Without this, your platform's indicator calculations will be different from GSB's, causing reconciliation discrepancies.

Reconciling: Comparing Live Results to GSB Projections
Once your system is installed and running, you should see trades executing on your live or simulated charts. Now comes the critical step: reconciliation.
What Is Reconciliation?
Reconciliation means comparing your actual platform results (what TradeStation shows) to GSB's historical backtest results (what the system showed when you ran the build). They should match closely if your platform is set up correctly.
The Reconciliation Process
- Run your system on the same date range that GSB backtested
- Record key statistics: Number of trades, net profit, max drawdown
- Compare to GSB results: Are they the same? Within 1-2%? Significantly different?
Common reasons for discrepancies:
- • Insufficient bars loaded — Make sure you set 500-bar lookback
- • Different data source — Ensure GSB and TradeStation use the same data feed
- • Indicator rounding — Small math differences are normal
- • Timing differences — Trading hours and session settings matter
For troubleshooting, consult the Strategy Guide and Troubleshooting section of the manual.
